A little while back, I was listening to some music on Spotify, and this one song came on. It was one I had heard before, but not in a while, and it was definitely not on the playlist I had on, so I was a bit surprised to hear it. But I listened to it once, and I found myself listening to it again and again. It was such a beautiful and peaceful song- not the kind of thing I normally listen to- but I kept playing it over and over.
Here it is for anyone wondering- You’re Gonna Be Okay by Brian and Jenn Johnson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjF9IqvXDjY (I would really recommend listening to it!)
Anyway, the lyrics of this song are all about keeping going through really hard times, even when you don’t think you can. I wasn’t going through a particularly hard time myself, but I still found the lyrics so comforting and precious. I also found myself praying those words over people I know who might be going through a hard time.
The first verse goes like this:
I know it’s all you’ve got to just be strong
And it’s a fight just to keep it together, together
I know you think that you are too far gone
But hope is never lost
Hope is never lost
As I continued to use this song to pray over people I knew who were struggling, I found myself thinking more and more about hard times.
I think sometimes situations can be so difficult and scary and painful that we feel like we will never get out of them and like we barely have the strength to face another day. Sometimes it might feel like no one sees your pain or your suffering, and that you are all alone.
Before we continue, friend, let me tell you something. You are seen. You are seen, and you are so, so loved. You might feel alone, and you might not feel like you’re surrounded by people who love you. But the truth is, you are loved more than you know by the creator of the universe… the God of the world who spoke creation into existence and placed the stars in the sky. He knew you before you were born, and He has your name written on the palm of His hand. You are His, and He loves you.
After thinking about this, I turned to the bible to find some verses for this post. As I was thinking about this blog post and what bible verses to include, it struck me that there are lots of bible verses that command us to be strong and courageous; or to not be dismayed or afraid.
And as I read through some of these verses, although they were filled with wisdom and power, I didn’t understand how they really worked in a tough situation. My thought process went something along the lines of ‘I get that these bible verses are saying we’re supposed to be strong, but how can we do that if it almost feels like a certain situation is weighing down on us so much that we almost can’t find the strength to keep going anymore?’
But then, as I read Ephesians 6:10, it hit me.
‘Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.’
Here is the deal-breaker. It’s not through our own power that we are to find strength… but through the Lord’s. Read that sentence again and think about it for a second. We were never meant to be strong and keep going by ourselves- we are meant to find strength.. and peace… and comfort in the Lord.
With this knowledge, I think it is safe to say that you will be okay. Whatever situation you are struggling with, will get better. You might not believe it and it might not feel like it right now. I get that. You might have tried and tried again to get back up, but it might feel like you’re fighting a losing battle. You might be exhausted… mentally, physically and emotionally. But you will be okay, and it will get better. Through Jesus’ strength, you will be able to keep going.

Exodus 14:14 says ‘The Lord will fight for you; you only need to be still.’
And this is so true. We don’t need to do ANYTHING. Our heavenly father, who loves us more than we know, will take our battles, no matter the size or the issue or pain, and fight them for us. And we, my friends, only need to be still.
