Imagine this… you’re wrapped up all cosy and warm in your favourite chair, a facemask on, drinking some warm tea or hot chocolate and watching your favourite Netflix show, with a lovely candle burning in the background. As far as a relaxing evening goes for me, there is little I love more than being all cosy and snug watching Netflix (probably Glee) and treating myself to a refreshing facemask.
If I can, I like to really try to relax at least one night a week. I find this destresses me and is such a nice treat after a long day of school and working. I’ve been trying to make it more of a habit to get everything done that I need to before the evening so that I can occasionally have this time to myself.
In this post, I’m going to share a perfectly cosy routine for a relaxing midweek evening. Hopefully, you can take some tips from this and try it out for yourself. If you don’t already relax a little at least one night a week, then, if you can fit it in, I would really recommend that you give it a try!
Here goes!

Before evening even comes around, a helpful thing to do is to make a to-do list of everything that you need to get done before you relax. I will often write this list when I get home from school. For me, it will consist of homework, revision, clarinet practice, and anything else I need to do for the blog or just in general. Having a list helps me to be more productive and to get everything done that I need to.
I also find that if I manage to get everything on my list ticked off before dinner, I’ll feel so much more chilled in the evening. I think it’s really important to try and clear your brain of stress and worry- hard as it may be- for just a short little while once a week.
Then, when it’s finally time to relax, I like to put on my pyjamas, or just some other comfy clothes. I might start with a little self-care too… take a shower if I need to, wash my face, moisturize, and put on a face mask.
Then, I like to set the scene in my room. Fairy lights, candles, pillows and blankets in my hammock… you get the idea. Make it cosy and warm… especially during the colder months we’re getting to now! To compliment my nice, cosy setting I will sometimes grab a warm drink (hot chocolate with marshmallows = the best!) or a little snack.
Once I’m all set up, I’ll wiggle inside my sleeping bag and hop into my hammock (don’t ask, it’s very cosy) under some blankets and pillows, and get to watching Netflix or reading. But most likely watching Netflix, haha! I find it most relaxing to watch funny or more light-hearted things, but you can relax however you find best. It might be listening to music, audiobooks or podcasts, drawing, doing art or craft or absolutely anything else!
I’ll watch a few episodes, maybe do something else for a little while, and then read the bible or spend time with the Lord before I hop to bed. On these relaxing evenings in of mine, I like to go to bed particularly early, just so that I feel the full result of all the relaxing and destressing the next morning!
I can honestly say that spending an evening a week- or just whenever I have time- chilling out and effectively doing nothing, is so relaxing and rejuvenating!
I hope that you can take some of these ideas and implement them in your own time spent relaxing. Let me know how you like to wind down in the comments below!
Happy relaxing!

Such a lovely and relaxing post Megan! I just found you through your guest post on Hope’s blog. Thank you for such thoughtful musings! You definitely inspired deeper thought in me. Once God sets an example for us and teaches us his ways of goodness and mercy, we should bestow that upon others.
My perfect evening routine would include my full skincare routine, my favourite takeaway of turkish gozleme, a good netflix show and some cheesecake for dessert! Then I’d settle down with some reading. My current favourite book is three birds renovation. As an aspiring interior designer, I find it all so exciting!

Your perfect evening routine sounds oh-so cosy! (Cheescake- the best!! 😂) And some reading to top it off sounds just perfect. I hadn’t heard of that book before, but I looked it up and it sounds so fun!
