Home School and Lockdown: My Daily Routine

We’re into week four (or is it five now?) of home school/ lockdown here in the UK, so life is beginning to feel somewhat ‘normal’ again- at least to the degree that I’m used to this by now. Of course, lockdown can never feel normal. Not going to school can never feel normal. Not seeing friends every day can never feel normal. But you get into a rhythm, and you keep going.

Something that really does help me get through the long days at home is having a structure… a daily routine, so I thought it would be fun to share my day to day online school/lockdown routine!

Here goes!

Recently I’ve been pretty tired, so I haven’t been waking up until around half seven! (Shocker for anyone who knows me, I know!!) When I get up, I have around 1 hour until school starts, so I’ve been trying to do some exercise in this time. Getting fresh air or just getting the blood pumping honestly helps me focus SO much more!

Something I’ve been doing in terms of exercise is to do little but often. I’ll be honest, I am not a fan of winter and I have been finding it SO difficult to get out of bed some mornings, let alone leave the house to run! So, my lovely cousin gave me the idea of running a mile a day, which I have been loving! I know its not much, but if I tell myself I’ll be out for under 10 minutes, it makes it so manageable… appealing even! Sometimes I’ll run further, or often I’ll do a workout when I get home, but having a small goal of just one mile has really helped me get out of bed!

I have a random class at 8:30 for anywhere between 10 minutes to half an hour, so I attend that (most mornings haha) and make my breakfast afterwards. One thing I have loved about home school is how much time I have in the morning. This means I can prepare scrummy and healthy breakfasts, instead of just pouring a quick bowl of cereal. I love avocado on toast, eggs, smoothie bowls, you name it!

Smoothie bowls for breakfast
Whipped coffee… yum!
Chia pudding with berry compote- I had this for breakfast this morning

I really think that breakfast is such an important meal… it fuels me, gives me energy and helps me concentrate.

My school day runs from 9.30- 3.30 (long and exhausting, yes I know). It’s a LOT of screen time, with only two, half-hour breaks in the mix.

Because of this, I like to use my breaks wisely to refuel and to break from screens. I try to eat healthily during these breaks because, again, I find it helps me concentrate. I shared a post on my favourite home school drinks a couple of weeks ago, but something else I have been loving are the oat energy balls from Hope Leilani’s lovely blog! Genuinely, these are SO good, SO delicious and SO healthy!

My very messy school desk

When my school day finishes at 3.30 I like to take a short break to get another snack if I need it, cuddle my pup, and tidy up my desk. After a little refresher, it’s back to work… homework, studying and exam prep. I tend not to work past dinner, so being as productive as possible over the next couple of hours is key!

I work through tasks and do independent study, normally on facetime to one of my lovely friends to help keep me motivated (something I sure need a lot of haha).

I like to pack up the work after dinner (normally 6.30) just to give myself some time to refresh for the next day.

In the evenings, I’ll blog, read my Bible and give my (much neglected) skin some attention.

After a long day of working, I feel like a good face mask and some moisturising is so good for my body. Even more importantly however, reading my Bible is so good for my soul. I honestly think this is the most refreshing thing I can do to end my day… I encourage you to do this as much as you can too, sweet friend!

Well, that’s it for my daily routine!

I honestly think that having a structured day helps me so much to get through this lockdown! Let me know the favourite parts of your day in the comments below!

  1. Hi Megan

You put me to shame. You sound really motivated. I need to put some of those things into practise now I am locked in with Grandad. My sum total today is to clean the upstairs but am just going to start some marmalade. Excercise sadly is not on the agenda but am going to see if there is a skipping rope in the garden shed. Just enveloped your pocket monies for next week should anyone be passing. Think you will have to rename your blog PERFECT.

    Love you Grandma xx
