I love to read. I haven’t done an awful lot of it recently, but that doesn’t change the fact that I love to read. From mysteries and murders, to, well, more mysteries and murder, I love a good book!
So, I thought it would be super fun to do a post sharing a few of my favourite books… except not just any books. Not mysteries and murders at least. No, these are better! These are the five books I would recommend to the Christian teen girl or young woman trying to find her identity in Christ in this strange age in which we live. These five books are game-changers! Each one of them taught me something about strengthening my faith and standing firm in my identity. Each one of them inspired me in one way or another. And now, I want to share them with YOU!!
Let’s jump straight in!

First up is a book I’ve read pretty recently: Girl Defined by Kristen Clark and Bethany Baird. Oh man, is this book is empowering! It gets right back to the basics and redefines God’s radical design for womanhood, beauty, femininity, gender and identity. This book is grounded in Biblical truths and is so powerful! The society that we live in today has a somewhat different message about the place and role of women than the Bible gives us. Even if you don’t agree with everything this book says, it is definitely an eye-opener!

Next, a book I read a little longer ago. Do Hard Things by Brett and Alex Harris truly is outstanding. I think that our generation can sometimes be put down by older people- ‘they can’t do that, they’re just teenagers’ or ‘she could never make a difference, she’s only sixteen’. We’ve fallen into this kind of thought pattern and that has made us lazy. We think to ourselves ‘we’re only teenagers, we’ll never be able to do that hard thing, so why bother trying?’. But, wow, this book totally changed my mindset! This books ‘rebelutionary’ message showed me what is really possible.

Third, one I got at a summer camp a couple years back- 16-and-a-Half Ways to Upgrade Your Faith. You guessed it- this book has 16 (and a half) chapters, each one focusing on a different practice that will help us deepen our relationship with God. Life can be up and down sometimes, and often our relationships with our Father can be. But this super practical book shares a bunch of brilliant tips to make your faith come alive and take it to the next level!

Okay, so now a slightly heavier one- The Girl De-construction Project by Rachel Gardener. This book deconstructs what it means to be a woman and how we can become confident in our God-given bodies, minds, souls and strength. This book really re-constructed how I approach thinking about my body, mind, soul and strength through focusing on things like desires, passions and cultural views towards femininity. I would recommend this one probably for older teenagers, but it’s a must-read for sure.

And finally, one you’ve quite likely heard of, Live by Sadie Robertson. Wow, is this book exciting! Life can seem boring sometimes. Seasons of waiting are hard. It can be difficult to be confident in who God says we are when the world is telling us something completely different. This book really is an adventure across the highs and lows of life, teaching us how we can live to our fullest potential and have the most abundant life possible, in every season of life. For teens all the way to adults, this book is encouraging, inspiring and practical! (Not to mention the beautiful photography- if you have the book you’ll know what I mean!)
I hope you’ve enjoyed these little book reviews and suggestions, sweet friend! Let me know in the comments, are there any of these you’ve read? Any you’ll be adding to your to-read list? And do you have any suggestions for me?

Do Hard Things is SO good! Have you read Start Here also by Alex and Brett? It’s really good too!

These all sound like wonderful books! Thank you for sharing them.
Although I have not read any of the Girl Defined books, I have been enjoying their podcast lately. I certainly do not agree with them on everything 100%, but I really appreciate their biblical perspective on so many important issues! 😀
