A Life-Giving Kind of Life

There must be something more than this.

Have you ever thought that to yourself?

Have you ever thought that there must be something… anything, more than this half-hearted life you’re existing in? Something more exciting than the mundane 9-to-5 routine that you follow, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year? Something more adventurous than the route you walk to school or work every day? Something more meaningful than the state in which you’re existing?

Life really can feel painstakingly boring sometimes. Almost like we’re doing the same thing over and over again, every single day. It can feel grey and monotonous. It can feel unfulfilling and empty.

I’ve felt that. I’ve wanted more. I’ve wanted something dramatically more. Something I wasn’t sure if this world could give.

Something that I now know only comes from Jesus!

I’ve always known about Jesus. I grew up going to church every Sunday, spending at least a good four hours there each week. My family always prays before mealtimes, my parents would always read me Bible stories before bed. I learnt that I could always talk to Jesus if I needed to, so I would pray when stuff was tough.

But it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I started taking my relationship with Jesus seriously. I journaled. I read my Bible (not always regularly, haha). I started a gratitude wall in my cupboard. I worshipped the Lord. I prayed when stuff was good and when stuff was bad and I SAW THE POWER OF PRAYER! I watched sermons; I paid attention in church.

I want to make this clear: I have never been, am not, or will ever be perfect- by any means in my relationship with Jesus. And I still have miles to go before I’m even remotely ‘good at it’. But, I do know that when I started walking my life with Jesus, things changed!

There are still days… months, even, where I didn’t feel enthusiastic about life. There are frequently times where I stress over things that I know I actually just need to leave in God’s hands. I still mess up, countless times daily. But still, I feel different about life. Like it’s more special, more beautiful.

Friend, life with Jesus is a breath of fresh air! It is completely freeing. When Jesus is in your life, you get to wake up EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. knowing that you are fully and completely known, loved and seen by the maker of the universe- by the God of wonders who breathed life into your body! It is exhilarating! You can walk with an extra bounce in your step even if it’s pouring it down on a grey day because you know that THIS is the day the Lord has made and you can be glad in that. You don’t need to sweat the small things- or the big things for that matter- because you can trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding, knowing that His ways are good and his timing is perfect! You can dance your way through life, even in the mourning and even through the tears because the JOY of the Lord is your strength. And you can take comfort in the fact that the King of Kings will be by your side always- He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Maybe you’re that person I described at the beginning of the blog post. Maybe you’re fed up with a half-hearted, unenthusiastic kind of life. Maybe you want more. If that is you, friend, I want to assure you- there is more. So much more! There is life with Jesus!

Life with Jesus is an adventure- a beautiful adventure handcrafted by the giver of life Himself. You never know where He might lead you or what he might ask of you. Life with Jesus is constant- he doesn’t give up on you. It is radiant. It makes you feel alive.
